Our scientists provide highly specialized scientific, engineering, and technical services to conduct observational investigations, scientific research, and analytical laboratory services for astromaterials research (meteorites, cosmic and interplanetary dust, solar wind, and lunar rocks) and exobiology & organic geochemistry. Data is interpreted in a solar system context to provide high-quality abstracts, conference talks and posters, peer-reviewed publications, and research proposals. In our research into fields like mineralogy and petrology, we use state-of-the-art instrumentation in mass spectrometry, electron microscopy, and spectroscopy to perform analyses ranging from macroscopic characterization to nanoscale examination of the same sample - all in one facility. We strive to understand the origin and evolution of the solar system, particularly rocky bodies, and the nature and distribution of life in the solar system through research.
In addition to our Astromaterials Research, we also have other areas of scientific research that are applicable to exploration studies and activities. Our analytical expertise with crew imagery, launch, landing, and on-orbit imagery for spaceflight and orbital debris environment modeling provide a complement of services to benefit spaceflight, various commercial applications, and provide informative, educational resources.
