Biography

Sara Schmidt is an Earth Scientist working for the Earth Science and Remote Sensing Unit (ESRS) within ARES. She joined the ESRS team in early 2019 as a contractor for GeoControl Systems on the JETS Contract at NASA Johnson Space Center. She is the lead payload operator for the Crew Earth Observations (CEO) payload, which targets and requests sites on Earth to be photographed from the International Space Station for research purposes and disaster response efforts. She is a writer for NASA’s Earth Observatory and works on cataloging projects with students at various universities to expand the searchable database of astronaut photography. Sara received a bachelor’s of science in Environmental Sciences from the University of Houston and is currently pursuing a Master’s of Science in Environmental Science with a focus on climate change from Oregon State University.
