Biography
David Charney is a designer focused on User Experience/User Interface (UX/UI) design, graphic design, and visualization. Some of David’s design efforts include:
• Astromaterials 3D - A real-time 3D visualization of NASA’s Apollo lunar and Antarctic meteorite collection for researchers and students.
• EMSS (EVA Mission System Software) - A suite of software and web tools used for planning, training, execution, and exploration for ISS and Artemis EVA operations.
• Science Engagement - A series of educational activities to introduce and engage students and space enthusiasts in topics such as Moon rocks and International Space Station related Earth photography.
David is also a designer on Ben Feist’s Apollo in Real Time project, which recreates the Apollo missions’ audio, videos, photos, transcripts, and other original elements through an interactive timeline.
David has received Johnson Space Center Exceptional Software Awards for Astromaterials 3D (2021) and the EMSS CODA tool (2022) that compiles ISS assets for training, testing, and research. He also has received a Gold Pencil Award by One Show (Apollo in Real Time) and a Brandon Hall Award (Gemini VIII Kiosk for the Armstrong Air & Space Museum).
