Biography
Dr. Andrea Harrington is NASA's Mars Sample Curator located within the Astromaterials Research and Exploration Science (ARES) Division at the Johnson Space Center. Currently, Dr. Harrington is working with the Mars 2020 mission team to preserve inorganic, organic, and biological contamination knowledge samples (scientific baselines for terrestrial contamination) vital to the success of a potential Mars Sample Return Campaign. As a graduate student in geosciences and a postdoctoral fellow in environmental medicine, she has acquired a diverse background in toxicology, geochemistry, biology, petrology, and planetary sciences. Dr. Harrington will utilize her breadth of knowledge to not only protect samples from terrestrial contamination, but also to protect the curation staff and researchers from any hazardous returned samples.
