Antarctic Meteorite News
Francis McCubbin, Interim Antarctic Meteorite Curator
Volume 6 No. 2 • October 2024
For this newsletter, 219 new Antarctic meteorites have been characterized and classified, with all of them coming from the Dominion Range (DOM). Of these samples, 163 were collected during the 2018-19 ANSMET season, 49 were collected during the 2019-2020 ANSMET season, and 7 collected during the 2023-2024 ANSMET season. We also want to honor and thank Kevin Righter for his decades of service to the agency as the Antarctic Meteorite Curator. Kevin left the agency in June for a faculty position, and we wish him all the best! Updates on pairing groups and reclassifications are temporarily on pause while we search for a new Antarctic Meteorite Curator, but all other activities, including sample allocations and returns, remain active.
Antarctic Meteorite sample requests for the Fall deadline are due by Friday, October 18th at 5 pm Houston (Central) Time.
