Highlights from Genesis Solar Wind Sample Analysis and Techniques Workshop
JSC curation hosted the 3rd virtual Genesis workshop, held in three sessions on March 31st, April 14th, and April 21st. Don Burnett and Amy Jurewicz set up an agenda comprised of 20 presentations where results from sample analysis, spacecraft measurements and modeling come together.
Some discussion highlights:
- Refined Solar System Fe/Mg Ratio
- Evidence that CI Chondrite compositions are not Solar
Summary of archived Genesis sample types
Genesis-flown samples: Passive solar wind collectors are the most familiar samples curated and are featured in the online sample catalog. Previously described samples also include the concentrator quadrants and the science canister hardware*.

Non-flown Genesis reference materials consist of array collector material that is flight-like and concentrator flight-like material for use in calibration and background measurements. Some science canister material coupons are also archived.
Previously announced at EXMAG meetings is the intent to also curate external (non-flown collector materials) and internal (Genesis-flown) implanted standards, created by the mission science team, for re-allocation. A pilot project is in work to test data and sample handling requirements.
The non-flown reference material and the Genesis-flown science canister material are not yet curated at the level of a public catalog, but the curation team is happy to provide information upon request.
