The origin and early evolution of the solar system. Current research activities focus on isotopic and trace element analyses of refractory inclusions and chondrules in primitive meteorites. The capabilities of the NanoSIMS are used to analyze micrometer and sub-micrometer variations in stable isotopes, short-lived nuclides, and highly refractory trace elements to elucidate the origin of some of the earliest solid material to form in the solar system.
