Returning Lunar and Meteorite Disk Packages

Please adhere to these instructions when returning the disks to prevent loss or delayed handling of the valuable Lunar and Meteorite Disk packages.

  1. Locate the postal return materials included in your package:
    • A mail label, stamped "Registered" for package return.
    • A meter strip that includes cost for postage and "special handling" for the return.
    • PS Form 3806 for return registration.
  2. Prepare package for return mailing in the original box. The package must be returned in the sample box with no additional weight included. Wrap in brown paper and seal it with paper tape in the same manner that you received it. Apply to the box the mail label and meter strip.
  3. Deliver to the US Post Office. Take the Form 3806 to your local post office with the package. The package is to be mailed Priority Registered Mail. If asked, the value of the package should be zero. Obtain a red-bordered, numbered "Registered Mail" sticker from the post office and make certain it is applied to the package. There is no cost for this sticker as the cost has been included in the postage and "special handling" mail strip accompanying the samples. The "Registered Mail" sticker must be obtained at your local post office to ensure trace ability by the US Post Office should the package become lost in the mail.
  4. Should you desire a return receipt, request one at the time the package is placed in the mail at your local post office. You will be expected to pay the fee for the letter receipt.
